Pike County Wrestling Season Begins with a New Look
By Guest Columnist Chris Stanley, Takedown Club President

ZEBULON - It is finally that time again. The 2014-2015 Pike County Wrestling season is approaching. There will be many high school wrestlers returning from a great season last year under the watchful eye of coach Woerner and assistant coaches Nobles and Moore, as well as a strong and hungry group of talent that coach Moon led coming up from the middle school rankings.

Coach Woerner has added some additional coaches to his staff this season with strong wrestling backgrounds from other area schools. They are coaches Pennlin and Smith. Let’s not forget about our future wrestling stars. That’s right, the USA youth wrestling program under the supervision of Coach Cobb is also kicking off in full swing. All practices are being held at the Pike County wrestling Dome, where it as well under went some serious off season improvements.

Thanks to the masterful artistic skill from Heather Clark McLaurin, the inside of the dome has been brought to life. Mrs. Clark McLaurin airbrushed three sections of the walls with a mascot image of Pike County wrestling that is sure to intimidate all schools that dare to enter our dome. (Scroll below this article for more pictures.)

Heather Clark McLaurin is a graduate of Pike County and was honored to be selected by the Takedown Wrestling Committee to paint the mural. This mural gives a strong statement about our wrestlers, and there is no doubt that these young athletes can live up to the image it perceives. The high school varsity and J.V. teams opened up the season at home in the Pirate Dome on November 18th.

These athletes put forth many hours of hard work and dedication, spilling blood, sweat, and tears. Please come out and support the Pike County Wrestling program. On behalf of the Pike County Takedown Club, we wish all wrestlers a great season.
